| Summary of the important definitions for CHAPTER 7ROCKS & SOIL.ROCK:natural non – living material made of one or more mineralsThe mineral: natural material that is formed from non-living thing.The physical property of the rock:· Color· Texture· What mineral made of.Texture:Is the size of bits of minerals or grains that make up the rock.Which make the rock smooth, bumpy or rough.What are rock groups??Igneous rocksSedimentary rocksMetamorphic rocksDefine please:§ Igneous rocks: formed from very hot melted rocks minerals and gases .(like the one comes out from the volcanoes, it comes out and when cooled becomes igneous rocks)§ Sedimentary rocks:made mainly from small tiny rocks, sand and shells that settle down as sediments at the bottom of the oceans ,pressed together into layers.§ Metamorphic rocks: is a rock that has been changed by heat and pressure.ü The metamorphic rocks was once been either igneous rock or sedimentary rocks.WHY IS SOIL IMPORTANT?As it contains humus,minerals,air,water which is important for plant growth.SOIL: Thin layer of loose material that covers the earth's land.v Soil might clump together because it holds water and materials that was once living.What is the decay?v Decay is the materials that are released by the remains of the plant and animals in order to grow.WHAT ARE THE SOIL LAYERS?1.
